Our summer has gone by so fast, per usual. I don't feel like we got a whole lot accomplished or even went on alot of vacations. Its mostly been day to day stuff. Thurm is home for the summer and he has been gardening and doing stuff around the house. We've been busy the whole summer, but I just don't feel like we have anything to show for it.
August so far has been HOT. I'm just hot. And fat. I'm just waddling around, sweating, waiting for this baby to come. I have two more weeks! Well, probably three, but lets cross our fingers for two! I have really easy, enjoyable pregnancies until the last two months, and then its just uncomfortable. And then add August heat onto this one. It hit me last night that I'm going to have a daughter. Forever. I've been picturing a little baby in pink with bows in her hair, but it hit me that I'm going to have a daughter when she is twenty-something and having children of her own. I burst into tears and laughter when it hit me. I'm sure Thurm thought I was crazy, but it was just a feeling of happiness and hormones. Its going to be so great having a daughter.
I was saying the other night how its such a good thing that babies are so cute and lovable to sort of ease the pain of sleepless nights, chapped nipples, post-pardem craziness, etc. And it takes the edge off of "holy cow, we have another child we are responsible for raising and financing!" Its like your brain just sort of fuzzes over and all you do is watch their sleepy little faces with total contentment.
The baby was breech on Monday and I had a hospital visit scheduled to do a "version" to flip her. I was nervous because it can result in an emergency C-section. On Tuesday at the hospital they did an ultrasound and she was head down. I really felt the love and prayers from my friends and family. It just felt like such a blessing and answer to my week long prayers.
In non-baby news, Quinn just broke his collar bone tonight. He was walking on the counter and fell off. I almost had no sympathy and was pretty mad because I tell him constantly to get off the counter. It drives me crazy! I let him do it when he was little because he loved to sit up there while I cooked. But he's too big and now their are two of them and I've had to put a stop to it. Anyway-- poor little dude was in alot of pain and we had to go to the instacare and get him x-rayed and a sling. It seems like such a waste of money when they can't do anything for it. But I guess it give me peace of mind knowing its nothing worse and we did all we could for him.
The good news for him is that he now gets out of swimming lessons. Today was day four of swim lessons and he has cried and thrown a huge fit everyday. I don't quite get it. He loves the water and wants to swim on his own, but he dosn't want to go with the class and teachers. We tried different tactics of sitting on the edge with him, watching from afar, just leaving him out of sight, etc. It didn't matter, he cried and cried. Next year I guess.
Jens is semi-potty training. I haven't been super dedicated and Thurm has been home watching him half the time, so we haven't been very consistent. He gets diapers during naps and bedtime, and sometimes when we leave the house. He goes naked sometimes, sometimes with underware.... you can see the problem. I realize it takes consistency and I thought these two weeks were going to be good ones with not alot going on--silly me. He gets the concept, but if he is playing and I haven't had him go potty in awhile he has accidents. We've had three poopy accidents and UGH! those are gross. I think he dosen't want to go poop on the potty so he tries to hold it and isn't successful. Anyway--I have much lower expectations this time. It was really frustrating with Quinn because you always hear how some toddler was trained in three days. I know now its an on-going, accident prone process. Even though he knows how to go potty, its still going to be awhile till he has dry diapers and is accident free.
Quinn and Jens have become best little buddies. There is still hitting, biting, pushing, crying, etc. But they love to play together and are finally at an age where they can play the same games and laugh at and understand each other. A couple days ago Quinn was talking to himself in the car and Jens leans up and says "What Keen? What?" (He says Keen, not Quinn) And Quinn tried to explain he was just talking to himself, but Jens persisted "What Keen?" It was so funny and cute. I also love when Quinn expounds his wisdom, knowledge and advice on Jens. The conversation is usually Quinn telling Jens how to do something or why we do something. Its so brotherly and loving.
Thurm goes back to school on Tuesday and its a SAD, SAD day. Its been so nice team-parenting all summer. Its been so nice having a friend home to talk to. Its been so nice for someone to share the cooking and dishes. Man, its too bad we both can't be stay-at home parents.
